i will be able now to possess the truth within one body and one soul. i was unnaturally abstinent, more detached than the best of beggars, proud to have no country, no friends.
i cannot understand revolt Name: Tabs Age: 19 E-mail: tabberry@umich.edu Contact Information: No Thats Trendy @ AIM or email Timezone: EST Availability: Not quite sure yet as, but generally I'm on at least once a day - for a while.
i have pale blue eyes, a narrow brain, and awkwardness in competition Full Name: Bartemius Caspar Bastian Crouch, Jr. Nicknames: Barty, Junior Age/Birthday: 17/30 March, 1962 House and Years Attended: Ravenclaw/6th Yr. (1973-1980) Blood Status: Pureblood, naturally. Occupation (if applicable): Student Alliance: The Dark Side! (...Uh, Voldemort?) Boggart: His father dead – oh no, wait. That'd be ace. – A long, dark hallway. Fucking creepy. Patronus: A hawk!
i will see myself forever in the past There are many words one could use to describe Barty Crouch, Jr. – mad, odd, creepy, charming (it’s true!), sarcastic, mean, sly, rude, snobbish, smart, stupid - I mean, that’s eleven words and the list goes on. It all depends on your perspective. The boy is, if anything, adaptable ( – and uncannily good at imitating people). He isn’t necessarily level-headed, but is very able to seethe for years without blowing a gasket, which he finds a good quality to have.
And while he isn’t what you’d call outgoing or friendly, his tongue does a bad habit of getting away from him, figuratively speaking. Perhaps it’s all the backtalking he’s done over the years to his father, who knows? He has an attitude problem and cares little for most authority – and most everyone at Hogwarts knows it. He is disrespectful to the point of rudeness when he doesn’t get his way. Being an only child has also fostered an independence in Barty that has no intentions of being quelled. He doesn’t need anyone for anything – although, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t use people to get what he wants. He has no moral qualms, especially when it comes to a desire. (He's a pathological liar anyway.) Any and everything that Barty does is for himself. He thinks of no one else, after all. Good grades hold little importance for him when it comes to studies, but the satisfaction of one-upping all the do-good Ravenclaws and Slytherins gives him a thrill. Impulse, desire, and satisfaction are the things that lead him to do whatever it is he does. He holds convictions and beliefs, of course, and will act on such principles, if the situation presents itself.
All the while, the boy is smart. Very smart. He doesn’t have to read the textbooks or do much of the homework to pick up on what’s going on in class. But his intellect is… rather twisted. With nothing else to occupy his time, the Restricted Section of the library serves as his second home and is where he pores endlessly over books on the Dark Arts, curses, and blood-purity. He is very well-learned, eloquent, and concise (sometimes his upbringing shows its face). But, as it is his sixth year at Hogwarts, most know by now to just try and avoid Barty Crouch, Jr. There’s just something a touch off.
Or, as a quick overview: Strengths: quick-witted, resourceful, adaptive, the Dark Arts, remembers things very well, charming (if he so chooses), innovative, practical, assertive, determined and ambitious, disregard for what others think, manipulative, and Muggle Studies (know thy enemies well). Weaknesses: Detached, irascible, arrogant, stubborn, Herbology, rude, spiteful – the list goes on. Fears: The Unknown (he wants to know everything), losing his mother, Voldemort.
Family:Father: Bartemius Caspar Crouch, Sr. – Bartemius Crouch, Sr. is, was, and, always will be, a stern, authoritarian, rather anal-retentive father. With a deranged son, what else can a man do? He rules the Crouch household with a fist just as a tight as he does in the Dept. of Magical Law Enforcement. And how fortunate for him that his career training coincides and, indeed, helps deal with his delinquent son. Rules are rules, as it is - and, as Bartemius often reminds Junior, they apply to everyone. Mother: Calypso Ursula Crouch (née Schreck, a well-known pureblooded family of Germany) – While still very regal and austere, Calypso is woman of wide horizons. She can see past the books and fine print that her husband gets caught up in to see the big picture. Still, she doesn’t, at all, approve of her son’s lifestyle (except the pureblood snobbery – she doesn’t mind muggle-borns, but, if she can avoid them, she will). If anything, Calypso is over-protective – sometimes to a fault. She wants to keep her baby safe and out of harm’s way! And she’ll try her damnedest to do it, when Barty Sr.’s out, of course. Appearance: With blonde hair, blue eyes, and very nice teeth, it should be obvious to most that Barty comes from a well-to-do background. It isn’t, though, oddly enough. Betraying his background, it is not unusual to find the boy strutting around (when not in uniform) in cast-offs – things he’s nicked from secondhand shops. Although he’d say it’s to spite polite society, it’s really to spite his father. Overall, however, Barty is a nice-looking young man, average in height – although perhaps a tad peaky in complexion and weight. PB: Ryan Gosling Sexuality: Can I go with bi? He’s attracted more to personality than anything else. Strong personalities. Achievements: Passed every OWL (he's earned 12 - which means one in every class) and is in quite a number of advanced classes, can also speak German, and plays the violin and piano. Hobbies: Reading, practising curses & jinxes, Gobstones, Wizard's Chess, being an arse.
what was i in the century past: i only find myself today. Although not quite as well-off as the Malfoys or Blacks, Barty Crouch was raised in decidedly upper-middle class home. He didn't have his own governess nor did the family have maids (they had a House Elf, however, named Winky) – but anything the boy asked for, he got for the most part.
His pureblood pride was instilled in his mind from a very young age (he's one of the last remaining Crouches and an only child). Barty knew he was always better than the Muggle children at the parks, than the Mudbloods walking with their confused parents down Diagon Alley – than everyone. His mother told him so as she helped him get dressed. His father didn't say much of anything. The majority of Bartemius' childhood was spent under his mother skirts (uh, figuratively) – she taught him things like mathematics and reading, while his father wasted years at the Ministry of Magic getting his moustache to look just right. His son held nothing but contempt for him from a very young age and would often spill things on his work robes or nick his wand, just to get on his bad side.
It wasn't until Barty was about eight that their money started to go. To this day, he couldn't say where it went, but he does know that it sure as hell wasn't there anymore. The family moved to a less prestigious house on the outskirts of London, while Bartermius Sr. still went about in the finest suits with the finest moustache combs.
Little of note has happened during Barty's years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry everyone else, he got his letter in the summer before he was to start at school and, like everyone else, boarded the train at Platform 9¾. (He was sorted into Ravenclaw - much to the surprise of his father, who considered him a devil child.) He spent most of his first five years in the Library, reading up on scary things and made very few, if any, friends. The boy being more of a snotty loner than anything else. He's gotten into a fair share of fights and had his fill of detentions, but it never seems to deter him from doing it all over again. Sixth Year has been going along the same as ever. Certainly the boy still has his attitude problem and finds himself unable to give a rat's ass about his upcoming 7th Year, despite his father's constant reminders.
